Education Minister vows curriculum to be updated to improve quality of education

8 july, kathmandu- Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Giriraj Mani Pokharel has said the curriculum would be updated to improve the quality of education.

He said so in the Natiopnal Assembly meeting today while responding to questions related to his ministry raised by lawmakers during deliberations on the Appropriation Bill, 2076 BS. The Education Minister said that a national campaign aimed at providing education to all children of the school-going age has been forwarded.

“The aim is to raise the status of the country from a developing country status through the promotion of education and not to deprive anyone from access to education, as the Constitution of Nepal has enshrined education as the fundamental right,” he explained.

Noting that education policy with the improvement of community schools has been prepared in keeping with the report of the High-level Education Commission, the Minister for Education said a new practice has been adopted in which the teacher failing the examination would be given a golden hand-shake, a new kind of practice in the world.
Process has been forwarded for giving the responsibility of child education and basic education to the local government itself, he said, adding that the investment in education has been increased compared to the past.

As committed in the past, 300 school buildings have been constructed throughout the country and preparations were being made to implement the President Education Reform Programme for the health and physical development, he said.

Minister Pokharel also informed the National Assembly that the report submitted by the task force constituted to make adjustment in the number of teaching positions has reached the office of the Council of Ministers, that the local governments have taken the responsibility of school education, that stress has been given to the quality of teaching while appointing teachers, that model schools would be set up in seven provinces and that differently able children were pursuing their school education in all 77 districts.
