Former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua dies at 81

10 july, Buenos airesf- Former Argentine President Fernando de la Rua on Tuesday died of heart and kidney failure, local press reported. The 81-year-old politician had been taken to the Fleming sanatorium in Buenos Aires in an “extremely serious” state, according to the state news agency Telam.

“I regret the death of former President Fernando de la Rua, whose democratic trajectory deserves the recognition of all Argentines, and we accompany his family at this moment,” Argentine President Mauricio Macri wrote on Twitter.
Former President Cristina Fernandez also expressed her condolences on Twitter: “Our condolences to family and friends of former President Fernando de la Rua.”

De la Rua had a surgery in 2016 to remove tumors in his bladder, and last year had to undergo angioplasty after a heart attack. De la Rua led the country from 1999 to 2001, the year when he resigned amid social uprisings.
The burial of the former politician will take place on Wednesday at noon in the Memorial Park, located in the city of Pilar, 60 kilometers from Buenos Aires. (RSS)
